Cooking Bacon in the Instant Pot
Cooking bacon in the Instant Pot couldn’t be easier! Simply add your bacon slices to the cold Instant Pot.
Select Sauté and adjust to the “normal” setting for 5 minutes. You can adjust these settings by pushing the sauté button to cycle through the “less”, “normal” and “high” temperature options.
After setting the time the Instant Pot should now read “ON” as it heats up.
Leave the bacon untouched until you hear it begin to sizzle. Once you hear the sizzle sound, flip each slice of bacon immediately using tongs and continue flipping about every 30 seconds to avoid sticking to the pot.
Once the cooking time is complete and you are happy with the crispness of the bacon, use tongs to transfer the bacon from the pot to a paper towel lined plate.
If you want crispier bacon, select Sauté again and add a couple minutes of cook time while continuing to flip.
If you have more bacon to cook, add another batch to the pot with the hot grease and flip bacon immediately, quicker than the first batch since the pot is already hot.
Once you are done cooking all the bacon, reserve the bacon fat in a heat-proof glass container with lid to use as a cooking fat in other recipes.
Serve bacon warm and enjoy!
Tips for Cooking the BEST Instant Pot Bacon
- Equipment – Use tongs for easy flipping and to keep your hands away from the hot grease.
- Temperature – Be sure to set your Instant Pot to sauté on the LOW temperature setting. This will prevent your bacon from sticking to the pot between flipping.
- Attention required – The bacon will crisp up quickly so keep an eye on it during the cooking process to ensure it doesn’t overcook.
- Avoid overlapping – Bacon will cook best in a single layer without overlapping, so work in batches if you are cooking more than will fit your pressure cooker in a single layer.
- Save the fat – After cooking all the bacon, pour the grease into a heat safe storage dish and save to add flavor to other dishes like eggs or mashed potatoes!
