Without a doubt this is the BEST Whole30 Coleslaw! The dressing is made of the classic mayo and apple cider vinegar mixture and the addition of fresh dill really boosts the flavors! It’s the perfect whole30 side dish, potluck offering or BBQ pairing.

Whole30 and Paleo Coleslaw

This classic creamy coleslaw recipe just screams summer barbecue. It pairs perfectly with any grill food and transports well to another location or outside space with ease. This recipe is super creamy while also being light and fresh thanks to the addition of dill. If you’re looking for more whole30 easy summer barbecue side dishes be sure to try this German Potato Salad, it’s always a hit!

Is Coleslaw Whole30

Coleslaw is a wonderful Whole30 compliant side dish with a multitude of pairings. Using a whole30 compliant mayo is essential for a Whole30 Coleslaw. The combination of fat and nutrient dense cabbage and carrots result in a perfect protein pairing for your Whole30 Plate.

Whole30 Coleslaw Dressing

To make Whole30 Coleslaw Dressing you’ll need the following ingredients:

  • Coleslaw Mix: If you want the quick and easy route a bag of pre-made Coleslaw Mix is the way to go or you can make your own mix by shredding 1 1/4 cups cabbage and 1/4 cup carrots.
  • Whole30 Compliant Mayonnaise: You can use a Whole30 Compliant Mayo like Primal Kitchen or make your own Whole30 Mayo at home in three minutes.
  • Apple Cider Vinegar: That delicious coleslaw tang that we all love comes from apple cider vinegar, it’s a small addition that results in big flavor.
  • Stone Ground Mustard: Choose your mustard wisely, many can have sneaky ingredients. This stone ground mustard is a great choice.
  • Salt and Pepper: Salt and pepper do a great job of enhancing existing flavors and providing balance to this dish. This unrefined sea salt is my absolute favorite mineral-rich salt.
  • Fresh Dill: Fresh dill adds both color and flavor to this dish. If you don’t have fresh dill you can either omit the ingredient or use 1/2 teaspoon dried dill weed instead.

Reasons to make your own Mayo for Whole30 Coleslaw:

  • Taste – It’s hard for any store-bought mayonnaise to compete with the clean and fresh flavor of a Homemade Whole30 Mayo like this one.
  • Cost – Undoubtably, one great reason for making your own mayo is how much money you save when you make homemade verses store bought. The cost difference is substantial.
  • Quality Control – If you like to be in control of exactly what ingredients are used to make your food then you can’t beat homemade.

How to make Whole30 Coleslaw

  1. In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the mayo, apple cider vinegar, mustard, salt and pepper for the dressing.
  2. Once the dressing is combined, fold in the shredded cabbage, carrots and dill until evenly coated in the dressing.
  3. Serve immediately or refrigerate for up to 3 days and serve cold.

How long is coleslaw good for?

Coleslaw is best served within the first few hours after it’s made. This ensures the vegetables retain their crunch however when covered and stored in an airtight container in the fridge coleslaw will last between 3-5 days although the vegetables will have softened considerably.

For the best texture I recommend using the coleslaw within 2-3 days.
