Dalgona Whipped Coffee Recipe – Also called Dalgona Korean Coffee is a quick and easy light and creamy coffee drink made from instant coffee and your granulated sweetener of choice. Whipped together and poured over ice and your milk of choice for a decadent coffee shop style beverage made at home.
What Is Dalgona Coffee?
This style of whipped coffee is said to be an adaptation of Beaten Coffee or Indian Style Cappuccino Coffee that was repopularized in South Korea when named after a Korean candy. It has also been flooding the internet under the name Tik Tok Coffee since everyone on the app seems to be making it.

The coffee drink is made of equal parts instant coffee, granulated sugar/sweetener and warm water. Then it is whipped together to add air making it light and fluffy. This creamy light whipped mixture is then used to top a cold glass of milk. It is so easy to make a incredibly delicious!
How To Make Whipped Coffee
(Full Recipe listed below in the recipe card.)
Step 1: In a mixing bowl using either a stand mixer or electric hand mixer for best creamiest results.
Step 2: To the mixing bowl, add organic instant coffee, pure maple syrup or granulated sugar/sweetener of choice and hot water.
Step 3: Using the whisk attachment whisk/beat the mixture on medium speed until the mixture gets thick and creamy, which takes about 3 minutes.
Step 4: Select a glass that will fit several ice cubes plus 8 ounces of your milk of choice (or more) and still have a couple inches of room left at the top.
Step 5: Once the ice and milk are in the glass spoon the whipped coffee over top the cold milk and ice. Stir with a straw as desired and enjoy!
What Kind Of Milk Can I Use
You can use any milk of choice whether dairy or non-dairy. Whole milk, nut milk, canned coconut milk, oat milk and hemp milk all work. If you have creamer on hand but not milk you can even use 4 ounces of your favorite unsweetened coffee creamer with 4 ounces of water in place of milk.
What Kind Of Sugar Can I Use
You can use any granulated (non-liquid) sweetener of your choice. (In the recipe below I prefer using pure liquid maple syrup and powdered collagen peptides with complete success!) You will want to select the granular and not powdered version of the sweetener. Just keep in mind that different types of sweeteners vary in sweetness so you may need to adjust the sugar quantity according to taste. I’ve included standard cane sugar, paleo sugars and keto sweeteners for those wanting a no sugar dalgona coffee.
- Granulated Cane Sugar
- Brown Sugar
- Maple Sugar (Paleo)
- Coconut Sugar (Paleo)
- Granular Erythritol (Keto)
- Granular Stevia (Keto)
- Granular Monk Fruit Sweetener (Keto)
- Granular Swerve (Keto)
Paleo Dalgona Coffee
Paleo whipped coffee can be made with any granulated paleo sweetener, my favorites to use are maple sugar and coconut sugar.
Can I make Dalgona Coffee in a blender?
Yes! If you are looking for the thickest, creamiest version of this coffee and you have an electric mixer (as pictured above) or whisk and a lot of elbow grease then I recommend sticking to that method however using an immersion blender comes in as the next best option, it works great it just doesn’t get as much volume.
I’ve included whipped coffee step by step blender pictures below as reference to the consistency difference you can expect. Blended dalgona coffee will be much thinner and foamier than creamy whipped dalgona coffee.
Can I make Dalgona Coffee without instant coffee?
To make this coffee drink you must use instant coffee or instant espresso it is necessary to gaining the air needed for achieving a light and fluffy whip.
Can I make Dalgona Coffee without sugar?
Yes, but you will want to use a granulated sweetener such as, granular erythritol, granular stevia, granular monk fruit sweetener or granular swerve. Keep in mind each of these has a different level of sweetness so the quantity of sweetener used will vary to personal taste.
Many people are looking for either Keto Dalgona Coffee or Low-Carb Dalgona Coffee recipes, any of the sweeteners above would make great options for a keto whipped coffee.
More Questions About Making Dalgona Coffee?
- Can I make this with brown sugar? – Yes, definitely!
- Can I make this with coffee grounds? – Technically yes but honestly I don’t recommend it, it just won’t be the same. Not nearly as good and it will also require that you stain the coffee preferably through cheese cloth before drinking.
- Can I make this with espresso? – This can not be made with liquid espresso but instant ground espresso powder will work.
- Can I make this with brewed coffee? – No, this recipe requires granulated coffee crystals / instant coffee.
- Can I make this with K cups? – No, this recipe needs to be made with instant coffee.

Hello! You don’t mention maple syrup in the recipe box. So you really don’t need any kind of granulated sweetener – just water, instant coffee and maple syrup will whip up just fine? Thanks!
Nicole says
Hi Alex! Great question, yes that will work just fine! The recipe is for either pure maple syrup or a granulated sweetener. I use maple syrup by preference and it works just great, enjoy!
